No, but I'm not surprised. I'm very dense about things "artistic." This is one of the very few songs of the past 40 years where I actually understand the song. Probably because it has a very personal meaning to me. In the early 90's I went through something like what he described and I still choke when I hear the final line

"The roller coaster ride we took is nearly at an end. I bought my ticket with my pride and that's all I've got to spend"
