Is this the most sacred? It obviously wasn't the hardest to break. That's arguably DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak.

FWIW, I think he cheated and I'll never accept him as the record holder. I'm just waiting for A Rod to catch up (even is he is a Yankee).
