Lake Michigan has been a huge environmental success story starting in the 1970s or 1980s. Back when you remember it the lake had a well deserved reputation for nasty water, not to mention nasty fish. Now you can drink the water and eat the fish without much concern. This is why there has been so much outrage lately about British Petroleum dumping pollutants into the lake near Gary, Indiana. I haven't delved into it but what I have read in the paper is the state of Illinois is beyond irritation at the state of Indiana for apparently giving BP the blessing to do so.

>I'm sorry, but I have a hard time swallowing that (tee hee). :o) I remember the polluted days of Lake Michigan and Superior as a kid... :o) (Heck I swam in lake Superior most summers) Are you telling me that all of those pipes we saw as kids running from factories and cities dumping directly into the lakes no longer exist?

>>>Memphis may be home to all evil, but the water is some of the best in the world. It comes from deep artesian wells and has won many awards. I remember the first time I heard of someone buying bottled water. Huh?

>>Chicago and many communities around it get their water from Lake Michigan. It's excellent water, which you might not necessarily guess.
