There was an article in the NY Times the other day about the new demand for ethanol having a big (upward) impact on land values in corn country. This is great news for older farmers, not so good for younger ones starting out who are in some cases being priced out of the market.

BTW, what is a detasseler? Something to do with cornstalks?

>Yeah, they have all the bells and whistles now if you are willing to pay for them. My dad bought a new one a few years ago and had it sitting in a shed. Before he even got to use it, we had a severe windstorm and parts of the shed were destroyed. A beam smashed through the windshied of the brand new combine and some tin created a funnel right into the cab for all of the rain. That was not a fun week. We also had to drag a 2000 bushel grain bin out of the field about a quarter of a mile from it's foundation. Luckily it didn't roll towards a house.
