>vfp uses cdx ineex files and idx index files and I am almost sure clipper use .ndx index files ,in this case is better to convert to a dbf file without index and then create and index in vfp.

As far as I understood (suspect) there is no control over these DBF files and the person trying to access them may not have VFP installed.
