EDIT: Replace Static in the title with Shared. DOH!

I am trying to find the best way to write helper classes. I understand what Shared methods do (Abstract maybe in C# lingo?) but when is it correct to use them? It seems like I can use them in my helper classes because all I am doing is returning data, but is that the right thing to do?
