It's pretty much the same as the story with the SQL server, except there's the price difference and MySql can be hosted on a Linux box.

The syntax differs a bit from that of SQL, though, but with adding a few modules to DataClass (or writing your own set of CursorAdapter classes), you can isolate them into not too much code. I've tried that with MySql on my workstation, and on a FreeBsd box, and it worked fine. Didn't try anything big, though.
