>>>Hi,
>>>Ring MS they will give you another key, you can add the new key without an install via http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328874

I can get a new XP Pro from Ebay for about $130, but can I install it over the current installation? I have lots of stuff installed, utilities, etc and didn't check the activation because I didn't have an internet connection at the time. I know I'm not the first to run into this. Thanks!

>>The person I spoke to said that I had to be on the original PC. I have had 5 PCs since buying this software years ago. The original PC is long gone. Oh well, guess I'll shell out for a new copy. Thanks for the link too. I found this little $10 utility that will basically do the same thing, I think and save me the hassle: http://www.keytech-software.com/KeyChanger%20-%20Windows/Specs.html

>That really, uh, stinks that they want you (us) to buy a new copy of Windows if you buy a new PC. They are two separate products. It's like making someone buy all new clothes if they move.

I usually build my PCs from whatever is at TigerDirect or laying around. I had a couple OEMs kicking around in addition to the retail one, but they would not install.
