The only thing that makes sense to me in a discussion about this is something I read which discussed how the repubs have been able to define politics in the south and midwest (to a great extent, although not to the level as in the south).

The book made 2 main points:

1) The entire process of getting southerners to become repubs is focused on bigotry and hatred. strom thurmond made it his main goal hand the south to the repubs when Lyndon Johnson became focused on the issue of Civil Rights. Which I suppose explains why coulter, limbaugh, hannity, etc. are such big hits with this crowd. Since they spew such hatred of those who dare disagree with them.

2) Because repubs do such a poor job in the area of social necessities (schools, health care, helping the poor, etc.), someone in their ranks came up with the idea of defining values to mean things that repubs could focus on, homosexuality and abortion. So while the quality of life in the US is getting eroded at an amazing pace until bushs' rule, the people getting hurt the most still support those in power because they write anti-gay marriage laws, and anti-abortion laws. Nevermind that the same people who write these exact laws seem to get arrested for propositioning teenagers, undercover police, etc.

>>It sure as heck does. Those good ole repubs were willing to go to any length to get an impeachment. Obviously getting a b-j is a far, far, far worse thing then getting thousands if not hundreds of thousands killed.

>>It's that morality thing about sex you know. Pure evil.

>That's the usual - anything sex related is a sin, unless done the way we say, and with our approval. Corporate fraud is not a sin. Lying to the public is not a sin. Killing is not a sin if we find a good enough reason for that. Or invent one.
