A Windows service can load when the computer boots. A person does not need to be logged on for it to run. Additionally, a service itself does not have UI, but can have a separate application that provides UI.

I have what I thought of as a "service" EXE that runs on startup and then remains non-visual other than sitting in the sys tray. When clicked, it opens up to allow setting to be set, etc. They asked what happens when the person logs-off. Does the service keep running? Is that how a service is supposed to act? How would I handle that?
