>Looking for something that can be used to listen to music, or not, that will keep noise out. I'm sitting at a coffee shop and their music is incredibly loud. They don't seem to be interested in turning it down because it sounds fine up at the front. I would like to find something that would keep the noise out, whether I have it plugged in to listen to music or not. Bose has some ( http://www.bose.com/controller?event=DTC_LINKS_TARGET_EVENT&DTCLinkID=2724&perfsourceid=k15318&src=k15318 ) but I'm not spending anywhere near that much.

I have a pair of the Sony 51's and they are wonderful. They key (other than buying the very expensive noise cancelling stuff) is to get IN earbuds that help block the outside noise

I can use these on an airplane and enjoy the music very nicely whereas I couldn't with the buds that weren't in the ear.

You do need to be careful though....I find that walking outdoors I can't hear traffic approaching. Also, in airports, its easy to miss the gate announcements....
