>You are correct again, old eagle eye.

I wasn't being critical - just trying to divine the different expressions twixt us. eg like in gridiron, I take it you still say defence and offence (but spelt wrongly, of course :-), whereas we say defence and attack.

>There is technically only one referee, who I sloppily referred to as the center referee. We do call linesmen linesmen. Even when they're women.

They've been euphemistically upgraded to "assistant referee" nowadays :-)

>>>I refereed in a soccer tournament a couple of summers ago where the center referee for one match specifically warned the players beforehand that she didn't want to see either their undershorts or what they were supposed to be covering. "I am not wearing any today," one of the players deadpanned. These were 14 year old boys. There's only one thing on their mind and it isn't soccer.

>>>PS -- Having known some policemen, including a couple who are no longer with us, I don't like the use of the word "pigs."

>>I agree. "The Filth" (English expression for them) is better :-)

>>BTW also known in the English criminal fraternity as, my favourite, "The Awful People" :-)
