Is the SELECT statement in a method or are you using a view or a query (QPR)?
If the error happens when you save a form in VFP 9 and save it in VFP 6 the problem might not be related to the query at all. Maybe VFP 9 is converting some of the property values to long values which aren#t compatible with VFP 6 or is setting some of the properties.
Can you make sure that you have a working form that runs in VFP 6. Now make a copy, open the form in VFP 9 and save it. Make sure it doesn't run in VFP 6 (that's what I understand is happing for you). If you have the two forms, compare them both. You can use FC.EXE from a command prompt to compare the files, or use any file comparison utility.
