In terms of whether it's a major crime against humanity, sure. We don't even know for a fact that he did it (although it's mighty fishy that he would plead guilty if he wasn't). But the potential political repercussions have quickly become apparent. You have to keep in mind that he holds a fairly safe Republican seat in the Senate. That the White House blasted him publicly so quickly tells me the party wants to get someone else in there as quickly as possible so the new person can run as an incumbent next year. They got caught with their pants down (cough) with the GOP Rep. down in Florida last year and think it cost them some close elections. They don't want the same thing to happen again.
Personally I don't care one way or the other whether he did it, even if it is pretty sordid to be playing footsie with strangers in public restrooms. (At the AIRPORT?! He must have misunderstood the word layover). But politically it's huge. Lots of voters won't be able to punish him fast enough if they get the chance.
