Having not received a response on the WW message boards, I'll try here:

I'm not sure I've ever had an easy setup of a server for COM operation. Usually if I run into problems, I can wipe everything, start over, and get it working. For a new project we're getting ready to beta, that's not working. So I have some questions about getting this going and some other issues:

1) The error I'm receiving is: "Err code = 800401f3: Invalid class string". When I ran CONSOLE.EXE it said it could not configure DCOM and I'd need to do it manually, then rerun CONSOLE. I did that, but I still get the error. If I let it skip that step, it doesn't help. I've blasted every occurrence of my server from the registry and deleted the web site and started over, but still no luck. I have, of course, run the app from the command line using the /regserver switch. And, of course, I've made liberal use of IISRESET.

2) I don't need the VBR and the TLB files on the server, right? I don't think I've ever put them there before.

3) I set up the sites as "top level" sites (not as something under the Default Web Server). This allows me to not have a folder name in the URL. Unfortunately, the instructions aren't clear on how do do this. I used Advanced Site Selection, but you can't add a site from there. I've always had to set up the site via Computer Management and then run CONSOLE.EXE. Is there a better/recommended way?

Any help would be appreciated.
