It just depends on your situation. VistaDB was written to integrate directly with VS and it does quite well. It is completely SQL Server compatible and does not require a server version. I have apps that run on a isolated computer other than cell Internet and needed to replace my Fox tables. VistaDB is going to fill that role very nicely. I also use SQL Server for the apps that are network connected. SQL Express may be a good choice too, but I don't like the attach and detach part for what I am doing.
