Unfortunately I have heard some ramblings about this. I've read a couple books talking about the Republican strategy and how Democrats can turn the argument to discuss the real social issues of the day.

But I've seen a couple talk shows where the Dem they had on could have easily not let the Repub spout the standard speaking points. One in particular that comes to mind is Webb vs. Graham (I think it was Graham). A first Gulf war vet with a son involved in the current war. Yet if you didn't know that ahead of time and watched the 2 of them go at it, Graham kept on saying that Webb had no experience or knowledge of anything Iraq, you might actually believe Graham was far more qualified to give an opinion.

With examples like this it appears to me that a portion of the Dems have the "if you can't beat em join em" attitude. And have decided to speak out against gay rights hoping to get the anti-gay vote. But as Scarborough has said in the video link I sent to John, the general leaning in the Dem party is full support of gay rights.
