Thanks also for replying to my memo field question.

I tried your suggestion but still had the same problem. I have put the code into the keypress event. It works - in that once the key is pressed the two push buttons reflect the actual state of the memo. However, it certainly is very untidy because it happens in time delay mode.

Any thoughts about what extra values are being stuffed into the keyboard buffer?
