didn't know Basra was being hit that much. I think Britain has been very good about holding up its end of the special relationship. ( spoken, of course, as one of the most Anglophile of Americans <g> ) and with friends you realize that many times they have to do things for their own reasons.

Besides, we still owe you for 1939-41

>I just thought there may be some resentment over there for our throwing in the towel. After all it's costing us a fortune (not compatred with the US budget, of course) and most of teh attacks have been on our troops. It's like just sending them out as skeet-shoot targets, till they're all gone, and the Iraqis earn a teddy. What's the point?

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
