I didn't read the whole thread, so I don't know if this was suggested by others:
Svchost problems

>This is happening with every program when I close it. Doesn't matter if it's IE or not. I've increased VM to no avail. If anyone has any advice other than rebuilding the laptop, I would like to hear it. If it persists, I will probably go to a backup and see if that helps. Anyone have any opinion what would happen if I just restored the WINDOWS directory/subdirectories? I will archive data, etc, but would like to minimize the restore and try to only update where the problem may be. What would happen to any programs that I have installed since that restore?
