"Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one." - Albert Einstein, found at http://www.elmpost.org/reality.htm which is another interesting read. www.ipod.org.uk/reality attacks the issues via theoretical physics, mathematics, cosmology, and philosophy. http://www.werbos.com/reality.htm answers the question "How can we discover the ultimate physical/mathematical laws which govern its evolution in time – or govern its state across space-time?"

It looks like there are thousands of very long answers to that question, but none that say it in a couple of sentences. Google said so, and that's one version of reality.
