I don't think you'll see it championed any more: these days firms are setting up offices in the 3rd world but not calling it outsourcing. It's a branch office. So the cost gets buried in the subsidiary salary budget and any savings are posted as a management win. It goes well beyond programming, too: when you go see a doctor, there's a chance your notes will be typed up by an 18-year-old student in Madras.

Oh, I know that it's referred to as a 'branch office', that's nothing new.

How's the world of technical publishing, btw? ;-) As for NY: it was just rated the coolest international city to visit, though London is second and rising fast.

It's funny you mention that - I'm in NYC at an Editorial Summit, and we were talking about outsourcing today (whoops! I meant foreign branch offices). And it wasn't being talked about in a positive light.

World of publishing is interesting, I've learned some interesting things and have been able to add some perspectives....so far, so good.

I'm not much of a city person - I lived in Atlanta for years, so I've done the big city thing - I prefer suburbia...
