I recommend a read of Michael Crighton's "State of Fear".

Fictional novel that has loads of references in it to investigate (and data from NASA about temps over the past 100 years).

Definitely worth a read... very controversial. (Slow start at the beginning of the novel, but quickly picks up pace after the main hero "dies"....(drinking and driving at over 100 plus on mountanous terrain in California don't mix!!))
