Here's a trick I learned from the Queen of Report Writer, Cathy Pountney, at one of her sessions at our user group: Stretch the line from the very bottom of the page header to the very top of the page footer (or group header to group footer) - just a pixel or two into those bands. The line will span the full distance between those bands regardless of the number of detail bands on the page.

You'll find this trick explained in Chapter 5 on page 77 of her book, "The Visual FoxPro Report Writer: Pushing it to the Limit and Beyond". Well worth the price.
