I've never lived without health insurance so I can only speak based on what I read. But it's my impression that there are a lot of people out there who aren't getting regular health care because they have no insurance. Since we know that people are healthier with preventive care than with only emergency care, ensuring everyone can afford to go the doctor seems like a good start.
