At some point we may well decide to keep most of our money for ourselves, and decide to pool some of it into some sort of commons, so we wouldn't have to pay (and wait for) the ferry each visit, we'd have our share in the new bridge. And anyone would be able to use our bridge for free, because they'd be good business for our neighbors (aka customers). Of course, the Guild of Ferries will object, so we will not do it.
