>What's ironic is that the Bush administration, while paying tribute to Reagan, has turned his principles on their head. They are all for big government when it can further enrich the rich or advance their social agenda. Ronnie would be spinning in his grave if he knew what these guys are doing.

Now there is something on which we agree <s> Though of course Reagan's era wasn't the shining city on the hill of "smaller government" his most devoted acolytes would like to believe it was. But Bush II has *really* turned his back on Goldwaterism.

>>I think in this case they set out to prove just how bad govt is at doing these things. I don't think Iraq is a typical case. There was no effort whatsoever to place proper controls in place for handling the doling of funds. As well as putting people in place who no experience in anything to do with rebuilding. Although they did have experience as a Republican party member.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
