What is the best practice when updating data via MM business objects?

Is there a way to automate using of timestamp field as update criteria? I can do it manually by re-reading the timestamp value from the record to be saved and comparing that with the timestamp value stored in the ABusinessObject's dataset during the initial reading. But may be I'm inventing the bicycle?

Is there a way to automate sending updates only for modified fields? As I can see in SQL Profiler, all fields are updated when mmBusinessWebPage.Save is issued, regardless of changed or not.
