We have been using a number of GPS devices from handheld to bigger ones mounted on navigation console (research vessel). The Garmin handheld older than 10 years is still working very effectively. Recently I use a newer Garmin model with a colored screen but it was harder to understand - like ease of use of old black&white cell phones vs new models with all those GPRS,camera etc stuff:) Garmin models are reliable. Also check MS Maps. I'm not sure but I remember it comes with a GPS.
