>>>Greetings!

>>>I want to make my VFP5 EXEs available on a LAN. Is there a way to copy certain support files to each PC in lieu of going through a setup process for each application on each PC? In other words, which files are necessary to run a VFP5 EXE, taking into account any special library files it may be using? With good ol' Visual Basic 3.0, all one need to do was copy VBRUN300.DLL to the Windows system directory (in the simplest scenario). I doubt it's that easy with FoxPro but, still, is there a way?

Actually you can copy vfp's dlls to a folder along with the vfp.exe and they will run, but if you have anything that needs to be registered, you'll have problems. Why don't you create a setup folder without the data and install it from the network.

As for setting a path to the data, I do this by putting a table in the root directory of the workstation which includes drive, path, and program. When the program launches I check for the table and if it doesn't exist, create it. I use a hotkey to let the installer surf to the appropriate folder and capture that in the table for the next time.

Another recommendation, if you are running Windows NT Server for your Network server, check out Kixtart. It is a very powerful scripting language from MS. It's also FREEWARE and the language looks like FoxBase!!! You can read and write to the registry. I have even used it to delete netbui keys from our workstations (150+) because it's such a noisy protocol.
