Coverage sounds like a good idea, but with >20s I'ld just watch the application with set trbetween on in the debugger in the relevant parts (assuming that you have identified the broad area already). As a SWAG I'ld also finger network troubles (Token Ring troubles way back come to mind) but that should be identified with a few switches in your logging/protocolling FWK.
