What are these people thinking?! Vermont as its own country? What would sustain their economy on a world market?
I guess it's a bit like Quebec here. There seems to be the idea that if they secede, then they will have their own country, but things will still be the same. They'll use Canadian money, still get money transfers from the Canadian Government etc. There seems to be little idea about what their economy would actually be based on and what it would become.
Ontario has a lot of manufacturing, but even Ontario would likely go down the tubes if it had to exist as a separate country. About the only place in Canada that would probably be able to pull it off is Alberta because of their already vibrant oil economy. The east coast might have a shot too, but it's too early to tell.
