>You are a keen baseball analyst, madame <g>. If you were single I would ask you to take me out to the ballgame.
Actually we do have a chaste semi-date to take in a game at Miller Park when your schedule allows. We can clap together and make snarky comments about the guys who aren't earning their money.

Sounds like fun. I'm going to the ballgame today with a man who's not my husband. Of course, he's my son. <bg> Solomon's coming up on the train for game 2; Marshal didn't think he could justify taking another afternoon off when he'll be out of the office for the next two weeks.

>Now there brings up an interesting point. (I can talk about baseball all day). Everyone likes to criticize athletes in general when they don't perform well. But I firmly believe, with rare exceptions, it's not because they aren't trying. They try. Things just don't always work out. One of the best comments I have read about this was from Joe Torre, who is in his perpetual hot seat despite leading yet another Yankee team (spit!) into the playoffs. He said the reason he can relate to players is he hit .360 one season and .270 the next and knew he was trying just as hard both years.

Yeah. The case in point here in Philly is Pat Burrell. Number 1 draft pick (#1 overall, I think). He looks great and has one of the most beautiful swings I've ever seen. But he's almost never played up to potential. Nonetheless, the fans here are easier on him than on many others because it's clear that he's always trying to do his best. The guy has a tremendous work ethic, and never makes excuses.
