The President of our company says that I must have this entire system done by tonight, as if he knows anything about programming. Anyone else deal with unrealistic managers who know nothing about the steps involved in developing and implementing systems? I swear, this makes me just want to quit.

Reminds me of an experience I had with my idiot manager at the last job I had as a wage slave in 1998. I used to put in 50-60 hours a week, taking work home with me every night. I was on salary so I did not get any extra money for this (although ot was, in part, responsible for my large annual bonuses).

I had planned a 2 and 1/2 week trip to Euope with a girl friend for an Italian cruise to be followed by attending the DevCon in Frankfurt. I had been working my butt off, putting in super human hours to ensure that everything that needed to be finished before I left was completed.

I never got an "Atta girl!" or so much as a thank you for all my efforts from my manager. Instead, she put a printed list on my desk the day before I was scheduled to leave entitled "Things that you must get done before you can go to Europe". I was tempted to put a list on her desk entitled "Things that you must do if you expect me to come back to work after I return from Europe". What did she think I was going to so? Cancel my trip? Fat Chance!

I resigned 2 months later and never regretted it.
