I really don't want to comment on the company other than to say it is a small one. Anything beyond that would not be constructive.

One of the things that disappoints me is I had a real opportunity to make a difference there. I did some really good work for them and a couple more company changing projects were underway. My fault.

Many places can only fire you if you miss three consecutive days in a row without notifying the company. Did you already have written warnings? Was there an escalation procedure? You're feeling down now, but I'm thinking about what recourses you may have for your intermediate future. At least unemployment insurance is a concern. Maybe beyond that.
