Bonnie,
I was once ordered out of a taxi in Paris. The taxi driver was outraged that NZ had caught French agents after they sank a ship in Auckland Harbor. Apparently this act of war by France was NZ's fault. Perhaps NZ should have gone to the UN demanding an immediate invasion of France- after all, France has WMD and had committed an overt act of war on a Western nation. ;-)
I'm sure you will find people like that taxi driver in every nation on Earth. The rest of us just need to make sure that their silly ideas aren't allowed to shape foreign policy.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
