>What a world when so many smart people are depressed or unhappy and so many dumbasses (pardon my French) go about without a care in the world. It's almost a cosmic joke, isn't it?
I don't see the joke in it. Everyone has their burdens and to make light of that is not being very sensitive. Many people have learned to cope and have made adjustments to handle their particular albatross. I've also learned that those who seem to not have a care are using that as an escape mechanism just as you do with the alcohol. My mother, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters are all alcoholics. Mom drank herself to death, one of my brother's is in a nursing home, unable to take care of himself after his strokes, and one of my sisters has had all kinds of alcohol related illness and surgeries. I agree with Kevin, wholeheartedly, but have learned from my own family and its dynamics, that, to speak proverbially, "you can lead a horse to water.....". You have to be ready to change and often times that means hitting rock bottom with no where to go before the magnitude of your actions hits you. When you are ready to change, willing to change and willing to do whatever it takes, you can change. Until then, you are spinning your wheels.
