If you don't spend too much time hunting and more enjoying it is a nice way to save on hotel cost - I was on a circuit through germany and switzerland 10 days a month and at home I had to stay fit as well...

Yupp, that was one of the points worrying me. I could meet my deadlines even if I had a especially taxing evening before - I was depending on my ability to take anything coming head on. By then work, sports and even the girls had become partly routine - working out silently for myself I was able to get a clear picture again what I wanted and not just to have a good time.
In retrospect I think getting some time to focus and out of the daily routine was the important part to get my bearings - going on for 10 years more and/or kids with partner trouble might have been a totally different scene.
