As often happens the V2 was the sexy high tech weapon which they went for but it wasn't cost effective. The Germans repeated the same mistake with their tanks producing the better tank but very expensive and hard to maintain when what the tank commanders would have liked was lots of cheap tanks like the Russian T34.

Hitler made a huge number of bad decisions like that. They had jet planes, which could have been put to devastating effect against allied bombers, but he insisted they be adapted to bombing - with a relatively very small payload. Not to mention that just when we were on our knees at the Battle of Britain he suddenly turned his attention on invading Russia instead.
