>Goldwater should have won the 1964 election. He wanted to abolish things like Social Security. I remember that television spot from the democrats showing an H bomb going off and asking if you want to elect Goldwater. Yes sir, if Goldwater had been elected no one might be alive on the face of the earth.

Yes, another example of fair and balanced. Goldwater wanted to abolish Social Security? Use nuclear weapons in a way different from current US policy? And you believe this because ... Lyndon Johnson told you so? And of course he would never lie ...

The 1964 presidential election was truly one of the most cynical moments in American political history. And we got what we deserved - 1965-1969 - and then Nixon. Goldwater was right about some things, wrong on others, but he was a better man than JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Clinton or W could ever hope to be.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
