>>And it's not that MS didn't finish the job - they did. Part of that job was to dismantle VFP team, regardless of how far they got finishing theirs.

>Ah yes. But that's another story isn't it? I suppose there have been several threads here discussing the demise of VFP. Another in a long line of MS blunders (imho) and one that has me looking more and more at alternatives to MS products. I am hoping that the VFP community will pick it up and keep it going for a very long time.

Um, yes, the message was clear: never trust Microsoft again. Not that I was thrilled when they bought Fox, but at least it seemed that they bought it for more than just to have a horse to compete with dBase IV. And yeah, when it went OOP it looked like it's here to stay; with VFP6 it got into Visual Studio, wow... and then around VFP7 they started lying to us straight. Not that they were entirely straight with 6 either - the non-marketing was rampant then, and the "VB6 is God" crowd was pretty much let slander Fox at will, without a word from Redmond.

Morale of the story: VFP is now perfect. M$ won't touch it, good. We'll know what we have, and we can take it from there. Next platform? From a source one can trust.
