Yes, we have the ability to enter the PIN into a console but I never use it. I also never electronically sign for a credit card charge. I don't know what happens with that information and don't wish it stored by the store. There was a news article earlier this year about one store keeping PIN information and that was hacked. I always use my debit card as a credit card and sign a paper receipt.

On a side note, I refuse to sign up for any store discount cards unless it can be anonymous. In the US, it is common, especially at grocery stores, to offer discounts if you have their "frequent shopper" card. The store says they link your shopping habits and can target market you and the information is never shared. However, not long after 9/11, it was discovered that some stores were sharing that information with the government. The way I see it, the store has no business knowing I bought a can of soup. All they need to know is that a can of soup was purchased.

>Good point, Craig. Before the intro of "Chip 'n' PIN" not so long ago I was always appalled at the laxity of clerks when they took your payment card and never even glanced at your payment slip signature to check it matched that on the card.

>I take it you have this service in the USA, whereby you type your PIN into a hand-held console. We were a bit late in intro'ing this, a few years ago, as the French had had it for years before us.
