I'm also in favor of a national primary. I'ld like to see it moved much closer to the general election. There are elections coming up in November that are completely overshadowed by a presidential race that is still 13 months away.

I'm not in favor of cross-over voting in primaries. The primaries select a candidate to represent a particular party and should only be selected by those whom the represent (members of that party).
