I agree about Java power. We have a small-medium size VFP application that we are keeping the desktop version in VFP but the web version is going to Java/Oracle.

We just gave a Java team in our company the requirements (plus my technical experience) and let them do the work. They did very good job in a very short time.
It is much more complex because they coded all the objects, such as a grid, but very powerful. They did not use hibernate or any other tools.

While in development we are testing the application on windows/Linux/Unix without any problem.
A lots to learn, sometimes frustrating but as we are all know, someone have to do the job.
