>>>>>>>Maybe that is editorial in tone but it's hard to disagree with much of it. The only part I disagree with is the bit about Churchillian speech. Bush's speeches are about as much like Churchill's as Borat was like Humphrey Bogart.

>>>How could I have left out "The Maltese Falcon"?! Or "The Big Sleep", for that matter.

>>>I haven't even heard of "The Roaring 20s". Will look it up and rent it if Netflix has it.

>>I like them all. Do not forget African Queen, Key Largo, The Caine Mutiny. I see that he was in 77 movies according to the info I found.

>More good additions to the list. Well, sort of. He was a bit overwhelmed by Katharine Hepburn in "The African Queen" (and who wouldn't want to be overwhelmed by Katharine Hepburn?). And "Key Largo" I didn't particularly care for despite the stellar cast.

>When I first arrived in Madison, as a transfer, one of the first groups I joined was the film society. It was new student week and they were trying to recruit new members, so they brought out the big guns. One night it was "Psycho" -- which I had miraculously not seen to that point -- then "Casablanca", then "Key Largo".

For me, African Queen was one of the great movies ever made. I don't really think he was overwhelmed by her. I just think his role was to be a bit taken aback by her, and I think he played it like a master. Not to mention that he played a Canadian!
