>>>>>>>>>>>Maybe that is editorial in tone but it's hard to disagree with much of it. The only part I disagree with is the bit about Churchillian speech. Bush's speeches are about as much like Churchill's as Borat was like Humphrey Bogart.

>>>>>>Roaring 20s stars both Bogart and Cagney. It's worth watching. And yeah, Big Sleep. I wanted to mention it, but couldn't pull the title out of the fetid morass that is my sometimes my mind. It doesn't get much better than Bogey and Bacall.

>>>Bacall was about 20 or 21 when that movie was made. She impressed Bogart enough that he married her. She won't be with us much longer, I suspect, based on her appearance at last year's Oscars when she had to grab the podium to keep from toppling over. You can see the effects of tobacco and probably alcohol. You can also still see the spunk that made Bogart go sparkle-eyed and call her Slim. Now there was a couple.

It's not that I have anything in particular against the Oscars, I hate all awards shows equally. Music awards, Emmys, Golden Globe, you name it and I'll be happy to hate it.

I also find that since I watch so little TV, they always seem to pre-empt the one show that I know I would have enjoyed watching in that particular week.
