David,
Hmmm, this is kind of interesting. I was working with VS97 and SP3 until yesterday when I installed VS 6.0. I installed VSS 6.0 and VFP 6.0. The two suspected VSS dll's are version 6.0.
ssscc.dll - version 6.00.8169
vsscc.dll - version 6.00.8166
The SP3 version of ssscc.dll was 5.00.2222.
So should I reload the older SP3 versions of these .dll's? Seems kind of odd that this would be the fix, or that this will even work. Or did we regress with the new VS release back to a prior problem?
Any ideas?

>If the SP3 fixes don't solve this I think you have to reload older versions of a couple of the SourceSafe dlls. You should be able to find the KB article searching on vfoxwin and vss
