Rome invaded BRITAIN. There was no England until 100s years later when the Angles and Saxons invaded:

Angleland (French name is Angleterre) -> Ingleland (Italian is Inglaterra) -> England (German is England)

so Romans, Saxons, Angles, Jutes, Danes, Normans - all been invaders

BTW I live in the county of Sussex - originally the land of the South Saxons (Sud Sexe - French influence via Normans)
County of Essex was East Saxons. There was also a Wessex (West Saxons)

The county of East Anglia (land of the East Angles)

Is it any wonder that English can be so aggressive - the gene pool of 100s years of aggressive invaders who stayed here :-)
