I was stationed with a Turkish regiment in Korea during the war there.
The Turkish soldiers fought side by side with us. They were excellent warriors and good friends. Although we understood very little of what we said to each other we helped each other get thru a very difficult time. They took a lot of casualties and so did we.
When I saw a Crescent, I knew I had a strong friend and they felt the same way when they saw a US star.
I befriended one guy who introduced me to Turkish tobacco, and I hooked him on Camels.
Maybe I served with one of your older friends or relatives. If he's still around, say "Hi and Thanks."
