Yes, we used the bomb. Japan had three day until the second one, but would not surrender. This shows their mentality at that time and what a slaughter the invasion of the main Japanese islands would have been. Hundreds of thousands would have been killed. The bomb spared lives, most likely. But the world saw its destructive power (immediately and over the long term) and we've worked since to prevent further use.
